Founder, Veteran Built Software
Military veteran. Master mason. Active contractor in Cleveland, Ohio. Recon Platform exists because the software he needed to run his own contracting business did not.
Joe Vega is not a Silicon Valley founder. He spent years on scaffolding and rooftops, mixing mortar through freezing Cleveland winters — bidding jobs, chasing payments, working with insurance adjusters, and managing crews with his own hands. Like most contractors, he paid for platform after platform to run that business. And after another twelve-hour day, he sat down and asked the question most contractors eventually ask: why does every piece of software I pay for make my job harder instead of easier?
It was not a casual question. He had committed real money, real time, and real effort to finding the right tool — subscription after subscription — and walked away from every one of them disappointed.
Every platform he tried was built for the wrong trade, the wrong size of company, or by people who had never spent a day on a job site — software developers guessing at what contractors needed. And the CRM was only half the problem. The rest was the stack of bolt-on services required to get anything functional: each with its own monthly bill, its own login, its own learning curve, and its own limitations. He was spending more time managing software than managing the business.
The founder on the wall — chimney rebuild in progress
“The problem was not that I had not found the right CRM. The problem was that the right CRM did not exist.”
Joe Vega — Founder
Before the trades, Joe had a background in computer sciences — he had taught himself to code, and that skill sat dormant while he ran his contracting business. In May of 2025 he made the decision to stop looking for the perfect platform and start building it. No investors. No hired team. No glass office. When his crews went home, he sat down and wrote code — night after night, weekend after weekend — building the thing he wished existed: a platform designed by a contractor, for contractors.
Every feature in Recon Platform exists because Joe needed it himself. Every workflow was tested on real jobs, with real customers, in the real world — and he continues to run his own contracting business on the platform every day. This is not a side project, and it is not a hobby. It is the tool he built because nothing else on the market respected his time, his money, or his trade.
When something breaks or a workflow is missing, contractors using Recon Platform do not file a ticket into a black hole. Joe is in Cleveland, Ohio, and he answers. Feature requests come from working contractors and are built by one — as fast as he can get to them, not on a distant product-review cycle. If there is something your business needs, tell him. He will not know unless you do.
The complete story — every platform he tried, why each one failed a working contractor, and what he built instead — is published on the ReconCRM blog.
